This has been a growth year for Gretchen Rice and her horse Rabbit (Rabelais), whom she describes as a “once in a lifetime kind of horse.” Gretchen and Rabbit compete in the hunter and equitation rings, and pro Rachel Nicholas guided him through a very successful season in the first year greens. “Rabbit is constantly surprising me with how great and patient a teacher he is,” she says.
The pair enjoyed a great season in 2014 and Gretchen picked High Desert Classic as one of her favorite shows to attend. “This year Rabbit and I went to the Rose City Opener in Tumalo for the first time and it was amazing,” she added.
Gretchen has been riding for seven years, the last three with Brawley Farms North. “The best part of riding here is simply being around our talented horses, friendly fellow riders, and the amazing staff that is always there for support and guidance,” she says.
This summer, she is a working student for Debbie while on break from Marylhurst University. She is pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in English and when she’s not riding (or studying) she enjoys hiking and camping. She adds, “And I always have my nose in at least one book or another.”
